The Flip Lecture
Flip Hallema from the Netherlands, a countrymen of mine,
opened this years FFFF convention with an inspiring lecture.
Flip's first routine involved repeatedly removing three glass light bulbs
from a box that, obviously, had room for only one bulb. Very clever idea!
Next Flip had Mark DeSouza examine a coin and a folded piece of
paper where the coin was locked into and later disappeared from.
The paper fold was of Flip's own design.
On the left Flip is seen breaking the bottom off of a wine glass
and then restoring it and on the right he is performing
a series of vanishing and appearing knots.
The pictures above show Flip teaching Bob Sheets his version of
The Hunters Knot.
Flip assured Bob that there is knoting to it. Bob must have thought
that Flip was stringing him along and was about at the end of his rope
when Flip tied it all together.
Above Flip ropes Mike Powers and Mark DeSouza into assisting him
with a Ring And Rope routine where the ring is removed and
put back onto a rope that was tied to Flips wrists.
On the left Flip is seen clowning around with a clown nose that he
used in a Chop Chop Cup routine but with no magnets. On the right
Flip displays the cup, an ordinary plastic coffee cup, the clown nose
and the two climax production balls. Clever stuff Flip - Thank you.
Next the audience was treated to a performance of
Flip's trademark routine, The Flip Stick. The routine was
performed using a flute which Flip is seen playing on the left.
A split second later and it, the flute, had vanished.
After Flip succeeded in finally capturing the flute he, Flip,
used the flute in a Zombi inspired finale
On the left Flip performs The Flip Stick with colored markers.
On the right he shows an origami owl puppet of his own creation.
Next Flip had Scott Wells select a playing card. Looking on were
Mark DeSouza and Gene Anderson. The card was found sealed in
an envelope that was concealed in Flips inside jacket pocket.
Mark DeSouza assisted Flip with his last routine in the lecture.
Thank you for a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT lecture Flip.
Look forward to seeing you in Holland next year.
If you have not been to a FFFF convention before well now is when the real fun begins.
